June 2020 Wrap-up and Book Haul

June has finally bid goodbye and July has finally come. I am very excited for July because it’s my birth month! I have a lot of reading plans but nothing is final yet because The Reading Rush is also happening this month.

But this blog is not about my reading plans for July but my wrap-up for June. I did not read a lot of books for this month but I am happy with all the books that I have read. And most of them are physical copy which is a habit that I was hoping to carry over for July.

I managed to finish 7 books though 2 of which are less than 200 pages. But I also have 1 book that I DNF-ed which is a relief on my part. I also have some exciting books to show you that I hauled this month. So without further ado, let’s get into my wrap-up and book haul!

Reading Wrap-Up📚

Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌖🌑

↠This was a very interesting reread. Vampire Academy is one of my favorite series. But after my reread for this book, that statement is quite questionable as I have noticed things that I did not notice before. This was still a fun read though heartbreaking as well. Hopefully, I can continue my reread for this series.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

Rating:🌕🌕🌕🌘🌑

↠I like Jane as a character but I feel like the book is too long and there are parts that drag a little. Also, I am not a fan of the romance and the romantic interest. I think I expected it to have a much better twist but this is a very interesting book.

The Murder of My Aunt by Richard Hull

Rating:🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

↠A witty and interesting book. I pick this book up thinking that it was a murder-mystery book but it is not. However, it was still entertaining and kinda refreshing. Just don’t expect much about the plot. But the ending is my cup of tea.🤣

Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌖🌑

↠This book is a fun read. But it would make you hungry with all the talking about grilled cheese and desserts. Other than that, the plot was good. I just wished that there are scenes that are fleshed out more. I also feel like a lot is happening in this book which is why it was quite long for a romance for my taste. All in all, I like the concept of the whole book. Definitely worth checking out.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Rating:🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕

↠This is my first time reading this book and I enjoyed it a lot. The characters are very likable, even the villains are so effective. Although, the motive behind the thief’s action could have been more solid. But I can see how the author is setting up the bigger picture and I like it. I also like the friendship and adventure. I think the Las Vegas part is my favorite.

The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕

↠I like this second installment more than the first book. I feel like this book has more depth. Also, I enjoyed the adventure in the sea. I also like the new character that’s introduced. And that ending!!! I was surprised by how that ended. It makes me want to read the next book ASAP. But I am reserving it for The Reading Rush.

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Rating:🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕

↠This is probably the best book that I have read so far this year. The power that this book holds is incredible. In just 50 pages, the author managed to tackle a deep topic that our society tends to overlook. Highly recommend this to everyone.

The Well of Ascension

The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

↠I DNF-ed this book. I’ve been reading this book for a month and I just can’t do it. I managed to get to 45% of this book and just when I thought I am finally warming up to the character that I dislike, I found another one that I dislike more. This book is so long but I feel like nothing is happening. I did not want to DNF this book but I feel like I just have to do it or else I will fall into a slump. I was so looking forward to the part where Sanderson will give me the big twist in the story but I just don’t care anymore. Maybe someday I will pick this book up again.

That is all for my wrap-up. Now for some exciting book haul! I only have 5 books to show you but I am excited for all of them.

So this is the first book that I hauled this month. This book was sent to me by the author before the pandemic broke out. And I only received it in the first week of June. This book is so beautiful and a fluffy paperback at that. Plus, the cover has a velvety feels to it. I am a bit obsessed with the cover! I can’t wait to read this and let you guys know what I thought of this book.

This is my most anticipated book of the year and I can’t believe that I haven’t read it yet. I really wanted to finish my reread of the trilogy first before diving back to this world. Even though I’ve been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about this book, I am curious as to where I will stand with this. But this book is beautiful! It looks good on my shelf too. I can’t believe that I am able to haul it this early because the shipping of books here in my country kinda sucks at the moment but good thing I saw an online seller selling this book and cheaper than my local bookstore at that which is a win for me.

These books are probably the most expensive boxed set on my shelf right now. I am not one to buy exclusive edition of books that I HAVE NOT READ YET but I really can’t say no to these beautiful babies. I just hope that I will love these books. Though I think that will not be a problem as most people whose opinion I trust with books love this trilogy.

So that is all for my June Wrap-up and Book Haul. Hopefully, I will manage to take down quite a few books on my physical TBR for this month.

I hope you guys have a good reading month. Stay safe!

Until next time.

Maria❤
