WWW Wednesday – 06/26/2019

This is the last Wednesday of June. I can’t believe that half of the year is already gone. How is your reading so far? I want to give you an update about my reading and of course, WWW Wednesday is the best way to do it.

Always thankful to Sam @samannelizabeth for hosting this.

If you want to join, all you have to do is answer these three questions:

1. What are you currently reading?

2. What did you recently finish reading?

3. What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

Synopsis:

I’ve lost it. 😦 The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now, the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day. Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive!! 🙂

A couple of glasses of bubbly with the girls at a charity do and Poppy’s life has gone into meltdown. Not only has she lost her engagement ring, but in the panic that followed, she’s lost her phone too. As she paces shakily round the hotel foyer she spots an abandoned phone in a bin. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number with the hotel staff. It was meant to be!

Except the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton, doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back, and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading all his messages and wading into his personal life. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, phone messages andhiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents, can things get any more tangled?

After finishing Glass Sword, I thought I might need a break from all the thrill and heartbreak that I’ve been reading. So I decided to pick up this book. This is my first Sophie Kinsella book and I am enjoying it a lot. It’s hilarious and just the right amount of cheesy. A nice breather from all the fantasy and dystopian books that I have been reading. Hoping to finish this book this weekend.

Glass Sword (Red Queen #2) by Victoria Aveyard

Synopsis:

If there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different.

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they’ve always known—and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.

This book has been in my blog for a couple of posts now. But anyway, I have a review (just click it to see the full review) for this book. However, I feel like my opinion on this book has change. I enjoyed it the second time around. And I feel like I understand what the author is trying to do with this book. Mare is not that annoying anymore, though she is still annoying.

King’s Cage (Red Queen #3) by Victoria Aveyard

Synopsis:

In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?

Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.

As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.

When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

I’m really excited to dive into this book. My best friend has already read this book and her reaction scares me but excite me at the same time. I want to know what happens next.
