National Book Store Book Binge Bazaar!

Hello there fellow bookworms! Another book event has taken over our country. We only have the annual Manila International Book Fair or MIBF. But now, there is a Book Bazaar! Although, I think this would only happen this year.

This book bazaar was hosted by National Book Store, one of the biggest local bookstores in our country. This event would take place from Feb. 09 to 11, 2018 at SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 3. What’s exciting about this event is that the prices of the books are only 75, 175 or 275 pesos (approximately $2, $3 and $5). And in our country it is a very big deal!

So if you are a fellow bookworm who is also from the Philippines and is planning to go to this event, I have a dos and don’ts for you!

3 Legendary Series

They say that a good story would remain in someone’s heart for a very long time if it is well loved. I, as a reader, have read books that I surely love and would highly recommend to some. However, no matter how many books there are on my TBR pile, there is still a gnawing feeling inside me that’s craving for something more. And lately, I’m sating my cravings with classic books (or books that were published before the aged of Twilight and Hunger Games), but I would like to call them legendary books.

Before dropping the names of the 3 legendary books that I’m trying my hardest to give a good introduction, I would like to give a brief criteria as to why I consider them legendary.

  1. They are still popular and well-loved no matter how long they have been published or using the words of Taylor Swift, they never go out of style.
  2. The series became an inspiration not only to us readers, but also the other authors who aspired to write a book that would give the same impact to readers.
  3. They have set the bars in their own genre.

And without further ado, here are the 3 legendary books that I’ve been dying to read.

Reading and Adulting

They say that as people grow up, their habits and manners are changing. It’s because their priorities and personalities are changing. But still lucky are those who gets to make a living out of their habits or passion or talents, those who does not need to set aside what they love to feed themselves and their family. But for someone whose talent is finishing a book in a day, shipping fictional characters and most of the time wishing to be inside a fictional world, what will their life be? It’s not like someone can read all day and get paid for doing so. Maybe some reviewers are being paid for reading and writing a review of a book, but it needs to have a starting point and it is not that easy.

Finding a job that revolves around reading all day is as hard as trying to published a book by a very well known publishing company. How many times does the publisher reject J.K. Rowling before finally scoring a deal with a publisher? J.K. Rowling has been rejected too many times that it is somehow incredulous that it has been rejected because of its fame now. (I bet those who rejected her regrets that decision.) But before becoming an author, they have mundane jobs to sustain themselves. J.K. Rowling would starve to death if she does not have any job at all while looking for publishing companies, right?

Preamble aside, I have been in the point of my life where I need to be an adult and all the things that come along with it. I need to find a job to support myself and to help my family. I have been unemployed for 7 long months and it’s a rough ride I’m telling you. And because of that, I haven’t been reading in the past 5 months or so, even my reading speed has decreased. I realized that it is not just a slump, it is life getting in the way of my mind that escaping in a fictional world is not an option. During that long period of unemployment, I’ve been craving for a mind churning activity. I do not want to have an idle mind. Yes, reading would help because we all get to learn something from a book even if it is fictional. However, what I’m craving is enhancing my skills and keeping my mind active like the way it was when I was in school; cramming for deadlines, reviewing for an exam and even doing my thesis would keep your mind at work even though you would forget your lessons after the exam, still you learn how to multi-task and finish something in a time frame. Realizing all this makes me feel sad at one point, I may have unread books on my shelf but something in me craves for something that the fictional world could not provide.

Reading has become my solace for a very long time, my peace of mind after an hour or two of cramming some information inside my head. But now that I need to be practical and I need to take responsibilities, it does not mean that I am abandoning my favorite habit, it just means that it is time to lessen the fictional side of me just so I can deal with reality. My reading speed may change, my favorite genre may be overthrown by another and I may not experience those sleepless nights while finishing a book but I would always find time to read.

I have seen this coming, hence the 20 books goal in Goodreads. But as some people say, there is no such thing as “no time”, it is just a matter of finding time for something that you’re really passionate about.

I haven’t expected my rumble to be this long but I just need an outlet to lessen the burden and the sadness that I am feeling because I haven’t been reading much. If you have read this up until this point, thank you!

Till next time!

Bookish Resolution!

Hi, to my fellow book lovers! It’s that time of the year again when we list down things that we hope, but not sure if we’ll ever do it, to accomplish this year. 2017 will be a good reading year for it, I can see it. In my previous post, I mentioned that 2016 is not a good reading month because reading turns into a chore rather than what it should be. So I decided to relive my love for reading, my goal this year, by rereading the series or trilogy that made me fell in love with reading.

With that being said, I’ll list down my bookish resolution that would help me accomplish my goal of reliving my love of reading for 2017.

  •  20 books. Starting my resolution with my Goodreads goal. I know 20 books are too little compared to my last goal. I’m planning to reread books that I loved to rekindle my love for reading. On top of my list is Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor!
  • Project 5. I’ve been meaning to do this ever since I heard about it from Cat at littlebookowl on Youtube. Basically, you read 5 books before buying 1 book. I’m conditioning myself to do this because I’ve been doing excessive hauls lately.
  • Read all the unread books on my shelf. I know I’m not the only one who buy books and keep it unread for months! We, bookworms, have a serious problem when it comes to buying books and not reading it immediately. So I’m planning to read all the unread books on my shelf.
  • Series take down. I have a problem when it comes to finishing a series or a trilogy. I always keep the last book unread on my shelf because I don’t want it to end. And it has to end now because new series are coming! (Ehem Noah Shaw! Ehem Laini Taylor’s new book!)

I guess that’s all my bookish resolution this year. I hope to stick with it and control myself on hoarding books this year.

Till next time!

Books I am Thankful of…

Hello, everyone! I haven’t blog for quite some time but I have seen a post that has been circulating around blogs and youtube accounts and I found it fun so I decided to do it. This week is Thanksgiving week in some parts of the world, mostly in the US. However, in our country, we do not celebrate such holiday. I’ve been seeing bookTubers and some bloggers mentioned the top 5 books that they are thankful of. Even though we do not have a thanksgiving day or week I still want to blog about the books that I am thankful of because come on, books are so much more than words on paper.
I tried to narrow down these books in 5 and I find it easier than expected. I’ll be posting the synopsis of each book so that you could have an idea of the story if you haven’t read it yet. However, most of these books in the list are series but I’ll be posting the synopsis of the first book of the series.
