August 2020 Wrap-up and Book Haul

🎶But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time, ’cause it was never mine.🎶

Yup, that’s me taking the chance to reference a Taylor Swift lyrics whenever I can. But the chorus of August is definitely what I feel about this month. It felt like it pass by so fast. This is probably the most stressful month for me. I only managed to finish 3 books which is quite low for my usual reads. But to my defense, a certain book takes up my entire month, and given that I only squeeze my reading when I am not busy or tired, reading more than half of that book is something to celebrate. But I’ll get to that later. For now, let’s get into the wrap up!

Reading Wrap-Up📚

Peril at End House by Agatha Christie

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

↠ Agatha Christie’s novel is truly a hit and miss for me. But I think I am neutral with this book. I did not hate it but I did not love it as well. However, I think the twist is a bit interesting though it did not wow me that much.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌖🌑

↠ While I am quite neutral with the first book that I finish this month, I am honestly shocked with the twist of it. Even though the plot line feels like a common Agatha Christie story, the twist really added a lot in the story. I did not expect that Christie would think of that twist, but lo and behold pure brilliance. I just hoped that the story is as interesting as the ending.

Encoded: A Richard Braddock Mystery by Richard Nebdal

Rating:🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

↠ This is a sci-fi thriller about people taking advantage of the weakness of the internet and using it for their own gain. It was fast-paced and thrilling. There are also a couple of twist that would surely caught you off-guard. Definitely worth the read.

Still reading…

I don’t usually add this to my wrap-up but thought I might share the reason why I only read 3 books for this month.

Death Note All in One Edition

↠ This book is humongous. I started this on the 2nd week of August and since I only have a few free time for the last week of the month, I only ended up reading 1,823 pages out of 2,400. Yup, 2,400.😅 So this is my downfall for this month. I thought that I can finish this since it’s only a manga but nope, did not happen.

Book Haul🛍

I bought two unexpected books for this month. To be honest, I am not planning to buy anything during the month. but I decided otherwise when I recall wanting to buy this book after reading Percy Jackson. This book is everywhere when it first came out and I am only caving in and buying it now.

This book is so beautiful. The pages and the borders are aesthetically pleasing and I love the muted theme of gold-ish illustrations and borders. Even the naked book is pretty. Hoping to read this anytime soon.

Now this book is completely unexpected. I’ve been obsessed with the Aladdin movies last month. I watched the Disney animation more than 5 times not including the adaptation and the sequel animation movies. But since I don’t have any Aladdin trinkets and I don’t want to buy a Funko Pop, I decided to get this book. I am so stupid to forget that Aladdin was based on a story in the Arabian Nights, and when I saw this book, I immediately bought it. Will pick this book up when I am in an Aladdin mood again.

So that is all for my August Wrap-up and book haul. Hopefully, next month will be a much better reading month for me. And hopefully, I will finally get the hang of this Block editor soon.🤣

Until next time!

Maria❤
