Recent Reads (May 25-31, 2020)

Time is a notion that has vanished to a lot of us since the start of the quarantine period. The months that we have been staying at home feel too long and yet it felt like time is passing by so fast. May is already over, and we are now on the 6th month of the year, already halfway there.

I have been slacking with my reading in the past week but I managed to finish 3 books for this week. I wish this reading kick would continue since I decided to join a readathon. Hopefully,  I will get a lot of reading done for this week too.

Now, let’s get into the book that I am currently reading and the books that I finished.

Currently Reading 📖

20522862

Frostbite by Richelle Mead

↠This is my first time rereading this book and I am scared that I will not love it as much. However, I reread the first book this year and I still love it. Hopefully, that will be the case for this book. I just started it and how I miss the world and the characters.

Read Books 📚

The Art of War by Sun Tzu

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

↠This is a short book and a classic one at that. I have heard about it in college because I took up Chinese Philosophy but I haven’t read the whole book only a snippet of it. I was contemplating on writing a review for this book but I feel like I am not in the position to do so. However, the book was a bit repetitive in the end and the edition that I owned has a commentary that can be footnotes in the book and kinda ruined the reading experience for me.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌘

↠I still love this book during this reread but the beginning drags a little for me. I don’t know if it’s just my slump or I am not just feeling it when I was reading the first part. However, this book made me so emotional and I was so invested when the Games began. I cried at some parts and my heartaches for the characters.

The Final Empire

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌖🌑

↠I don’t know if this book was included with the comments that Sanderson’s other works are much better than Elantris, because if it is, I would love to disagree. I have a very high expectation with this book after reading Elantris and it did not meet my expectation. I also did not feel connected with the characters, especially Vin who annoys the hell out of me. But the plot was good, I just don’t think that the ending satisfies me after that slow burn story and build-up.

So that is all for this weekly wrap-up. I will be posting my monthly wrap-up on Wednesday.

I hope you have a great reading week and a good month as well. Stay safe guys.

Until next time!

Maria❤
