Recent Reads (Apr. 20-26, 2020)

The Community Quarantine in my country has been extended again for another 15 days. Because of that, I feel like I have a lot of time to read. But then again, I did not read much during this week. After reading 3 books for 3 days for Stay Home Reading Rush, I kinda fell into a short slump. I let myself unwind a little and just watch movies and did not pick up a book until Friday night. Even so I managed to finish 2 books which are both great reads.

I don’t want to get this intro too long, so let’s get into the books!

Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi

This book has been in my current reads for a whole month now and I just can’t push myself to continue. I don’t know if it is because of voices in the audiobook that I am listening to or because of the current situation right now. I may love dystopian, but I found myself staying away from them for the past few weeks because of this pandemic that is too close to a dystopian novel. I feel like my subconscious could not take the overwhelming amount of horrible people in the government and deaths both in the fictional and real worlds. But I will give this book one last chance and I will pick it up over the weekend. If I am still not in the mood for it, I will put it back on my shelf and read it again when the pandemic is over.

Deviously Sincere by Alayna Hallward

I requested this book on BookSirens a couple of weeks ago because I was intrigued by the synopsis. It’s about a serial killer, who like Jack the Ripper, has evaded the law enforcement and they did not have a clue about his identity. So it is up to the agent to track him down and put him behind bars. So far I am only 10% in and the first chapter was kinda brutal but it’s quite good.

Read Books 📚

17860739

S. by J.J. Abrams & Doug Dorst

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕

If I were to read one book for the rest of my life this would be it. I know I would love this book the moment that I heard about it 6 years ago. But I think this book is not for everyone. If you have a short attention span, I think this book is not for you because it would take a lot of focus to really navigate in this book. But it was so worth it. The book follows a budding romance in the margins, a mysterious author whose identity is unknown and a book that may have messages that need to be uncovered. This would definitely be in my favorite book not just for this year but for all time!

Revenge of the Wannabes by Lisi Harrison

Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Because I feel like I am getting into a slump, I picked up the next book in The Clique Series reread and I am having such a good time. However, the storyline of this book feels too similar to the first book with just some added elements of boys and more drama hence the 3.5 rating. But it was still a fun read. Reading one of the books in this series also makes me feel nostalgic. I love them all even though I am a new adult now.

So that is all for my recent reads for last week. I hope you will have a good reading week and a happy Monday!

Until next time!
