This or That Book Tag

It’s been awhile since I last do a book tag so when I saw A Little Haze Book Blog do this tag, I knew that I have to do this. This tag was originally created by Paper Fury. Make sure to check them both out.😉

This was a very fun and easy tag so let’s get into it!!

1. SERIES or STANDALONE

~This is a very easy question for me. SERIES. I am a big fan of fantasy so I prefer long series over standalone because I feel like 3 books or more could give the series a well developed world and characters. Standalone books are forgettable for me, I feel like I will forget the story after as soon as I read a new one. I also don’t like buying standalone books, I mostly have them on my Kindle.

2. MAGIC EARNED or MAGIC BORN

~It is a very tricky question but I am leaning more on the magic born. It is very rare to see a magic earned story that is well executed. I prefer the magic born trope because I prefer fantasy books where the magic systems are well established so that there are rooms for a much better plot. As to magic earned, I always find that the whole plot was all about finding out the source of magic, how did the characters end up with such, who caused the magic and how to stop it; I have Divergent The Darkest Minds in mind as an example.

3. ENEMIES-TO-LOVER or FRIENDS-TO-LOVER

~Another easy question for me: friends-to-lover. I feel like this trope is more realistic on my part. I like seeing a good friendship developed into something deeper. And I feel like their relationship is stronger because the characters knew each other quite well before being together. Unlike enemies-to-lover trope which can sometimes be too cliche and cringey in the most part. Like the magic earned trope, I feel like this trope has to be well executed for me to enjoy it.

4. HILARIOUS BANTER or EMOTIONAL RUIN

~Hilarious Banter for the win. Lately, I’ve been picking up books to relax and enjoy myself. Life as an adult is very stressful so I don’t need to be emotionally wreck while I’m relaxing. I’m already exhausted physically, mentally & emotionally in the real world, I don’t need to be exhausted in the fiction world as well. Besides, we all need to have a good laugh every once in a while so I really enjoyed hilarious banters very much.

5. LOVE TRIANGLE or INSTA LOVE

~This is a tricky question because I don’t like both. I really hate books with the love triangle trope in it, especially in contemporary. It’s not like it always happened in real life! And most of the time, you would always know who the main character would end up with, so why bother adding another character to feel sorry for? As for insta love, I am okay with this trope in a way but it does not sit well with me besides it is cringey most of the time. But I guess I have to choose one so I am choosing the lesser evil, insta love.

6. KEYBOARD-SMASH FANTASY NAMES or ALL NAMES START WITH THE SAME LETTER

~All names star with the same letter. I think it is more bearable than keyboard-smash names where you don’t even have an idea how to pronounce. I kinda roll my eyes at authors who would even released a pronunciation guide for the characters. I don’t want to stop reading  each time I stumble upon a character and search for it’s pronunciation. Why can’t they just used an easier names for their characters? So I am definitely choosing the former. It’s okay if there is a story goes like this: Adam fell in love with Allen’s sister Ava; rather than seeing Paorucleudmg (my keyboard-smash character) as a character’s name in a book.

7. MEAN PARENTS or DEAD PARENTS

~I don’t prefer either choice but I’ll go with dead parents. Having a mean parents is something that you wouldn’t want any characters to have no matter how mean they are. So I would prefer them dead and not in the picture rather than someone who abuses the characters. Besides, a lot of YA doesn’t have a lot of good parents anyway.

8. SUPERMODEL LOOKS or CONSTANTLY SAYS HOW “PLAIN” THEY ARE

~This question may look tricky but it is quite easy for me. I would prefer someone who has a supermodel looks, confident and knows perfectly well that they are that good looking rather than someone who constantly whines that she is too “plain” so she does not know why the handsome guy likes her.

9. FACE ON COVER or TYPOGRAPHY ON THE COVER

~Need I say more? The picture speaks for itself. Typography on the cover for the win. I remember how people keeps on including the first cover of Vampire Academy to the worst book cover ever.

10. VILLAIN TURNING A LITTLE GOOD or HERO TURNING A LITTLE BAD

~Villain turning a little good. I have a thing for bad guys turning into good boys or showing their good side. It’s always easy to do the bad things but doing a good thing is hard even if you’re a hero or a villain.
