Reading slump is any bookworm’s biggest nightmare. It is the sudden decline to read or pick a book no matter how hard you try. I have never experience a reading slump before because I’m good at dodging the nightmare the moment that I felt the pull to that dark place. But I have never seen this one coming, I was completely off guard. And it’s been 2 months without a blog post, a book haul or a bookstagram post. I completely shut down.
I didn’t notice that it has been 2 months since I last posted anything book related on my social media account. I was surprised when I checked my last blog post. So now, I’m trying to revive this blog and fight this slump. I will try to make this short and cut to the chase because I want to make this as organize as I can be. There are 3 things that I want to talk about in this blog post: what caused my reading slump, how I’m doing so far with this said slump & my plans to revive this blog.
~~~~~~~
What caused my reading slump?
While most people do not know the reason why they stopped reading or what caused their slump, I know perfectly well how I fell so hard in this nightmare. And it’s all because of iKON, a K-pop boy group that I’ve been into lately. I’ve been into K-pop for a long time, I’ve been into 2NE1 since 2011. But never in my life have I fangirl this hard for K-pop. I blame the technology and the internet.
My 2NE1 phase did not overlapped with my book life. I love their music but I’m not really updated with their group activities. Back in 2011, I’m not a fan of watching videos on YouTube, I don’t even have my own laptop. We have one desktop in my parents’ room so my parents can monitor our, my brother & I, time in surfing the internet. And the only time that I watched 2NE1 videos on YouTube is when I’m thinking of a choreography for school. (I used to be a dancer way back in High School.) And when I finally have my own laptop and a smartphone, I’m not used to watching an excessive amount of K-Pop videos, so I’m at peace.
But with iKON? It’s different. My reading time was replaced with marathoning their past and recent reality shows, variety shows, music videos, dance practice and even their past VLive (similar to Facebook live and Instagram live but on a different apps). I even attended their concert here in my country 2 weeks ago. 🤦♀️ But it was one of the best night of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. And now, after all those shenanigans & after the hype of the concert subsided, I’m trying to fully get back to reading.
My explanation is longer than I expected.🙊✌
Me, my slump and my reading plans.
After all those fangirling stuff that I mentioned above, I’m back to reading. I already finished Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken.I should have read it 2 months ago but better late than never right? I also just finished my reread for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone yesterday. I’m currently reading In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken and I’m planning to start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets today.
Even though I have been reading and I already finished 2 books, I can still feel the slump lurking and I know that I haven’t fully recovered yet that’s why I’m rereading Harry Potter. I remember watching a video in YouTube about curing a slump and one of the cure is rereading Harry Potter. It’s effective for me until now.
As for my reading plans, I want to finish The Darkest Minds trilogy and the Harry Potter series. I’m already a hundred pages in the last book of TDM trilogy so I can feel that I could accomplish that before the year ends. With Harry Potter, I have only read the first 3 books so I’m rereading the first 3 books then I’ll continue on with the series. I want to finish the series before the year ends, fingers crossed to that.
Blog & bookstagram revival.
I already have a plan to revive my blog and I already lined up my blog posts for the next couple of days. I’ll write a spoiler-free review for Never Fade then a book tag. So that’s that. I’m also planning to change my layout and theme for my blog to give it a fresh look but it’s still a work in progress.
As for my bookstagram, I wanted to update it so badly but I’m still clueless with the content. I’ll try to take a decent picture later if I can.
If you ever had any suggestions on how to cure a slump, leave a comment. I badly need some help.
And that’s all folks!
Till next time!
Maria ❤
